Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician
The AAT Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician course has been designed to enhance the skills acquired in Level 3. Students will look at drafting financial statements and constructing and presenting complex management reports.
This qualification is ideal for those who want to learn about specialist areas such as tax, auditing, credit management, and cash and treasury management.

Successful learners will gain credits towards Chartered Accountancy qualifications, and possibly also credit towards relevant under-graduate degree programmes. Upon completion of Level 4, students can fast-track to the professional level of CIMA, in addition to further exemptions for other awarding bodies such as ACCA, ICAEW, ATT, ICAS. Course graduates are entitled to apply for full AAT membership and use ‘MAAT’ post-nominal letters.
The learner must complete six units. Of these, four are compulsory. The final two can be chosen from a range of options. All learners must complete these units:
Financial statements of limited companies
Management accounting: budgeting
Management accounting: decision and control
Accounting systems and control
Plus two from the following list:
Cash and treasury management
Because the level 4 apprenticeship is a higher qualification we advise learners to complete AAT Level 2 and Level 3 beforehand. Alternatively, two years’ industry experience could be substituted.
Delivery & Duration
Solvo Vir’s training programme combines online and face-to-face tuition to give learners the best possible chances of success. Our team of expert trainers will at intervals throughout the course visit learners at their place of work, providing training and support. Meanwhile, the technical aspects of the training will be taken online, using a high-quality virtual learning environment.
Most learners will complete the course in 18-24 months. The timescales can vary according to learners’ aptitude and previous experience.
Next steps after completing this course
Successful graduates can become professional members of the AAT. The student could proceed towards Chartered Accountancy qualifications.
